Model Test Shoot: What to Expect

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR MODEL TEST SHOOT

IT'S A TEST, MAKE SURE YOU STUDY

MORE THAN PICTURES

My team and I love to do model test shoots because we love to test out new ideas and are always looking to be inspired by new faces. For the models, we're looking for more than good pictures. We want a collaborator, someone who is going to bring something to the table. We're going to inspire you, we want you to inspire us too. We want to see your work ethic, your stamina, your enthusiasm. Photographers are very perceptive, I'm going to get to the bottom of why you ended up in my studio and what your potential is. We're going to push you and find your strengths and weaknesses so we know what jobs to book you for in the future.

A FEW GOOD PICTURES

We want to see how you move, if you know your angles and how to work the light or how to work the set. We'll put you through a few setups and make a few good pictures to get your book started. Within a month after the shoot you'll get a selection of unedited proofs from your shoot, usually about 30 or more, delivered online, including a variety of headshots and full body shots. Your model release gives you permission to use these proofs however you see fit to promote yourself and your modeling business.

WHAT ARE DIGITALS?

Agencies will ask to see your "digitals," which are unedited pictures of you, usually photographed in natural light with little to no makeup or hair styling. Agencies want to see how you really look, with no retouching, no makeup, and with your natural hair. They want to see you as a blank canvas. Still, we want you to look good and cool so we highly recommend getting your digitals done by us and not using your iPhone. We will do digitals for you with every shoot if you book our hair and makeup artist. If you come to the studio with your makeup and hair done, you can come by and get digitals at a later time.

THE MODEL RELEASE

We need a signed model release in order for us to give you any pictures from your shoot. This is not a contract, it simply spells out your rights as a model and confirms that I own the copyright to the photos. If you're 18 or older you can sign the model release yourself at the time of your shoot. If you are under 18 a parent must sign the model release in addition to the model. If you're under 18 please print the release, show it to your parents and have them sign under witness. Click here to download the model release.
